Laundry Bag: Simplifying Home Tidiness

Challenges:How to improve laundry bag to make it easier for users to stack and collect dirty clothes

Date: April - July 2023

Skills: Product Design, CAD Modeling

Tools: Fusion 360, Adobe Illustrator

Design Process:

The Laundry Bag went through several iterations created in Fusion 360, as I aimed to combine functionality with modern aesthetics. The final version is a result of meticulous CAD modeling and ergonomic design, ensuring ease of use without compromising on style.

Frist Version:

There is no design at this stage, just an explanation of the concept about what I think of this project. As a sketch it can be used as a reference in the next step of the design.

Second Version

The second design has essentially taken the shape of the final version. In this part, the biggest problem is how to open the lid without touching the basket, so the final solution is to add a space on top of the basket. The next problem is how to design the top lid, how to design the buttons and screens?

User Testing & A/B Comparison:

· Objective: Evaluate practicality and aesthetic appeal of two Laundry Bag variants.

· Approach: User testing conducted with a focused group of friends, all around 20 years old.

Methodology:

1. Participants: 5 individuals were selected to ensure a comfortable environment for honest feedback.

2. Test Variants:

· Variant A: Manual lid with push-to-open feature, budget-friendly.

· Variant B: Automatic lid with weight sensor and push button, premium model.

1. Color Testing:

· Color Options: Minimalist white (Color 1) and vibrant teal (Color 2).

Results:

1. Functionality:

· Preference: 80% (4 out of 5) preferred Variant B for its automatic feature.

· User Engagement: 30% higher regular use observed with Variant B.

1. Color Preference:

· Majority (3 out of 5) favored minimalist white for its adaptability to various decors.

1. Price Sensitivity:

· While Variant B was more popular, 40% (2 out of 5) considered Variant A for its affordability.

Perceived Value and Color Impact:

· Variant A: Rated 7/10 on the value-for-price scale.

· Variant B: Rated 8.5/10, indicating higher perceived value.

· Color Ratings: White scored 4/5 for versatility; Teal scored 3.5/5 with concerns over decor compatibility.

Final Version

Project Conclusion:

This project has been more than a foray into product design; it has been a lesson in user psychology and market trends. The balancing act between cost efficiency and technological advancement has provided a deeper understanding of consumer priorities. As I prepare to bring the Laundry Bag to market, these lessons will guide the approach to future innovations.
